The benefits of swings, slides and monkey bars – for kids and adults!

We all know that physical exercise is good for kids and of course adults…and at Kitcraft we’re all about making exercise fun!

But have you thought about joining your kids on outdoor playground equipment for massive amounts of fun as well as exercise for you and the little ones?

Here we take a look at the benefits of swings, slides, trampolines and monkey bars for all of you. So there’s no excuse, get out there and have fun with your kids!

One of the best ways to engage your kids in exercise, while having fun, is to do it with them and of course now you can do it in your own backyard, without having to all get in the car and go to your local playground, which of course means you can do it every day!

Exercising with your kids is the most awesome way to bond with them, and they will absolutely love it! You’ll be laughing and talking while getting an awesome workout at the same time.

Kids need to get at least 60 minutes of moderate exercise a day to keep healthy, and adults needs to get at least 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity or 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week – so while you’re at it, make it fun for all of you!
So, here are some of the benefits of playing like a kid, and of course your kids will be getting the same benefits as you do!

Swings

When you pump your legs to swing high, you’ll be working your quadriceps and hamstrings, which are at the front and back of your thighs. The harder you pump, the higher you swing and the more intense the workout becomes. Your kids obviously won’t be pumping as hard as you do, but they’ll be working the same muscle groups which are important for their development. Just the mere motion of pushing your kids on the swing, will work your triceps too.

Slides

Many of our cubby houses come with slides and climbing those steps will work your quadriceps, hamstrings and buttocks. Sliding down will lift your spirits, which in turn gives you an energy boost, to make sure you can get at it all over again! For an additional workout, catch your child at the bottom of the slide and lift them overhead – this is awesome for an upper-body workout, but please make sure you bend your knees to protect your back!

Monkey bars

Monkey bars are fantastic for working upper body muscles which helps your kids with handwriting. Hopefully at this point in your life you can write, so this won’t be important for you, but it gives you a fantastic upper body workout nonetheless! If you climb up and down the bars this exercises both your arms and legs at the same time; try and get your kids to do the same too. Hanging from a bar stretches the whole body. You could also try and doing a chin-up to strengthen your arms, back and shoulders. Whatever you are doing, get your kids to follow suit and they’ll be working all the same gross motor muscle groups too.

So get yourself and your kids active in your own backyard!
